Board of Directors

Members of our Board of Directors are representatives from across the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, who have an invested interest in children and youth.

Meet our Board of Directors:

Pat Markovich, our Chair, is Professional Engineer, and has held several senior national and international roles in the private and not for profit sectors centered out of Toronto.  She has recently relocated back to her home town of Brockville, and is currently a Sales Representative with Royal LePage ProAlliance Realty located there. Throughout Pat’s career, she has had a passion for service and has become involved with many local volunteer organizations promoting the health and quality of life in her communities.  She has brought this passion with her to Brockville where she sits on the board of a number of local organizations serving this city and the surrounding areas.

As a recently retired educator Stephen Elliott, our vice chair, was privileged to have had the opportunity to work with the future every day. In that work he was particularly drawn to help children address their challenges in order to better realize their inherent potential. And it is that same spirit that drew him to CMHLG and its Board of Directors, with their collective efforts to foster and promote children’s mental health and well-being. Stephen also sits on two committees for the North Grenville community. Outside interests include the usual list of activities including golf, skiing, tennis, travel, reading, and learning to play the ukulele.

Carmen Grosse , works for Donaldson Canada Inc., a division of a multi-billion dollar international company that manufactures filters. Carmen manages the stockroom, shipping & receiving and is also responsible for purchasing all the material that is used in the production of the filters that are manufactured onsite. When Carmen is not working, she takes care of her wonderful husband and adorable mini-dachshund, Winston. Carmen also likes to garden – vegetables more so than flowers & then cook with these natural ingredients out of her own back yard. Carmen truly enjoys cooking a good meal, a glass of wine and entertaining some good friends. Mental health issues have affected people who Carmen is close to and she has seen individuals struggle with everyday living. While she has witnessed people address their mental health challenges in adulthood she understands the importance of identifying and addressing concerns when young and more easily addressed. Carmen is honoured to be a part of this organisation and an advocate for children’s mental health.

Dr. Andy Thomas has been a member of the board since 2013. He has been a Family Physician in Eastern Ontario for over 20 years. During that time he has been interested in helping individuals and their families who have been affected by mental illness. He has served on the board of the Canadian Mental Health Association in Cornwall in the past and is currently a member of the Special Education Advisory Committee of the Upper Canada District School Board. Being a member of volunteer boards is a great way to be involved in the community and to give something back. Andy is married and has 2 children who are currently in University. He likes to balance all the time spent in the office, the hospital and in meetings with cycling, seadooing in the beautiful 1000 Islands and less frequently running (he prefers to leave this to his wife). Before moving to Canada Andy and his wife lived in South Africa.  Dr. Thomas has always been attracted to areas of medicine that have been less well served by the system. He has seen a tremendous change in children’s mental health for the better, but there is always more that can be done.

Lance McIntosh has practised dentistry in his hometown of Prescott since graduating from the University of Toronto in 1995.  He has always felt it is important to be active in his profession and community.  He is a past president of the Prescott Rotary Club, served for several years on the Ontario Dental Association's General Council, and currently sits on the executive of the Brockville and Area Dental Association.  He enjoys helping children and has volunteered as a coach with Prescott Beginners Baseball, South Grenville Minor Hockey, the Prescott Curling Club, and the Maitland Soccer Association.  He is also a leader with the 7th Prescott Cub Scouts.  Lance's personal interests include golf, downhill skiing, boating and astronomy, often with his wife Cheryl and children Landon and Brooke.  Lance especially enjoys helping children in his practice, and was excited to join the Board of Directors.  He describes his years as a Board member as being very enjoyable and a great learning experience.

Barbara Patrick has been on the Board of Directors for five years and has just finished her second two year position as Chair. Having spent forty years in Education, mostly Special Education, Barbara felt that her understanding of special needs students would be an asset to the Board. Barbara is interested in fitness, and made it a retirement goal to run a Half Marathon. The generous support of family and friends helped her to raise over $3000 for CMHLG by running the Toronto Women's Half Marathon in 2010. She also spends time doing a variety of Art projects, including watercolour, acrylic, mixed media and Paverpol figures. Barbara has participated in fund raising activities for the Brockville General Hospital and the local animal shelter and has volunteered her time to support the Brockville Operatic Society and the Brockville Theatre Guild.

Christine Kivi is a first and foremost a mom.  She has 2 beautiful teenagers that drive her to do her best for Children’s Mental Health of Leeds and Grenville.  Christine’s interest in mental wellbeing is rooted in her formal education.  She holds a Masters degree in Psychology as well as a Masters in Statistics.   Christine works full time for The Pythian Group as a Team Leader for a group of extremely talented Database Administrators.  With her career focused on Information Technology, she has been able to focus some of her spare time for her true desire and passion – helping ensure our children have the opportunity to reach their full potential.  Christine loves to travel with her family and experience new and exciting places – even those in our own backyard.

Garry Green is a long term member of the Board of Directors and has acted as Treasurer for most of his time on the board. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant and a graduate of the University of Waterloo. He has practiced in Brockville for 31 years. He is also the Treasurer of Brock Cottage which operates recovery homes for men and women suffering from alcohol and drug addictions. He has been involved in many federal and provincial campaigns in a financial capacity. He enjoys curling at the Brockville Country Club. As a neighbour of the Brockville office of CMHLG he admires the work they do and is pleased to be involved with the organization.
